Taylor and Seth had the BEST time tonight!! The Daddy/Daughter Dinner and Dance put on by our church has been the topic of conversation for the last 2 weeks. The assignment was to dress up as famous Dads and Daughters and Tay picked Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley! How cute is that?? From what I heard, they had a great time and Seth was asked several times to sing a little something...but, unfortunately, the voice was not included with the costume so all we heard sounded like nuthin but a hound dog...cryin all the time! :) Thank you, uh thank you very much...

The Judds came over to play today!! While Micah and I were engrossed in conversation, Reagan, Alyx, Jace, and Jacob were free to entertain themselves however they saw fit. At one point, while the older kids were outside riding scooters, we realized that Jacob (1 year old) was being WAY too quiet upstairs. Micah went to investigate and this is what she found!! Notice the stream of chocolate drool, sucker still in hand, and all of those EMPTY candy wrappers! Too funny!! Needless to say, Jacob found the Halloween candy bowl and decided to help himself! Talk about party-til-you-drop!! :)

Taylor, the Spider Countess

Halloween was a lot of fun this year! Taylor wanted to be something 'freaky' so she came up with a spider countess. Reagan wanted to be a witch with a green face "but don't worry mom, I'm a nice green witch" she says. And Alyx thinks she's Spider Man....really. This all started long before Halloween so, really, we didn't have a choice with the costume!
We spent the afternoon at our church's Trunk-or-Treat where all 3 girls won a cake on the cake walk and the cake that we entered in the decorating contest won 1st place!! (forgot to take a picture!). We are still enjoying those prizes! Then we went Trick-or-Treating with some friends of ours around the neighborhood where the girls scored WAY too much candy so they had to split it with mom! :)

So last week Alyx decided to chop her hair off.... I was on the phone and Taylor came into the room with a horrified look on her face and a handful of hair. She told me she found Alyx upstairs with scissors. grrrrrr! Her hair had FINALLY reached the point where it was all the same length and growing beautifully... then she decides to give herself a mullet. I did the best I could to give her a stylish VERY short bob, but she still has a "baldspot" behind her left ear. So to remedy the problem, I made some obnoxious, big flower clips to cover it up! After putting in her favorite pink one, she wanted me to take her picture. It was so cute because the petals on the flower kept tickling her ear and she couldn't stop laughing!! Oh the good things that come from catastrophes!

Reagan's Bouncy Birthday!

Reagan had a great 4th birthday!! We celebrated with everything bouncy: hop-scotch, leapfrog, balloon bop, and bunny hop. We topped it all off with Reagan getting her very own mini trampoline! She has been wanting one forever...and mom and dad finally came through. But now she tells us that since she has a 'baby' trampoline, it needs a great big 'daddy' one to keep in the back yard....oh great! We will have to wait and see on that one! :) Happy Birthday Boo-Boo!

On one of the way too few nice days we've been randomly having, we decided to go fishing!! The girls have been dying to go for months but it's always been too cold!! We had a blast...even Alyx is a pro at casting now! Although we only caught one itty-bitty fish, we had a great time feeding the ducks and playing with wormies!! (Alyx and Reagan gave them all names). Taylor was so cute as she tried to teach her little sisters what she learned last year. It was a much needed day of relaxing and hanging out with my family!

I couldn't be more proud of Taylor, Bryn, and Ashley. This morning they decided they wanted to do a Lemonade Stand. Perfect spring time idea! I said go for it. They made posters, calculated prices, and even made up a song to sing to attract customers! " Lemonade (clap, clap, clap) Crunchy ice (clap, clap, clap) We'll pour it once (clap, clap, clap) We'll pour it twice (clap, clap, clap) The third cup is free, free, free...then you'll have to pee, pee, pee." Catchy right?? (Oh brother) anyway...I asked them what they were saving money for. They unanimously decided that they wanted to raise money for charity. Of course, my heart swelled. When I asked them what kind of charity, they said they wanted to help sick kids. So Vanderbilt Children's Hospital won the vote. They were outside from around 1:00 to 6:00 in the evening and made a whopping $39!! It might as well been a fortune...they were so excited. I found the address to mail donations to and each of the girls wrote a little letter explaining why they wanted to do this. They expressed how they wanted to raise money for sick children so that they could get better and be able to spend more time with their families. Yes, I cried... They had so much fun doing this and I am so so so proud of them! Way to go girls!

Kentucky Relief

I've been meaning to post this forever...
Seth's unit was activated last month to go help with all of the damage caused by the huge ice storms they had up in Kentucky. No electricity, water, heat, food, gas, etc for weeks because of it. So scary. Anyway, a local paper did an article on how the military firefighters saved the day because all of the local stations just couldn't handle the magnitude of the job. There were several fires caused by people trying to stay warm or by the electricity trying to come back on and sparking. It was NO fun to get a phone call one Friday night saying Seth had to report by 7:00am the next morning and they didn't know how long it would take. Luckily, it only took 2 weeks before he was home again. I don't know what I would do if he ever got deployed overseas...cross my fingers. Seth got some really great pictures of the ice on the trees...I will post them as soon as I can. I think this was a really neat experience for him being able to help those people and even got to fight some real fires! ( Nothing ever happens in Franklin :) It was tough having him gone but I am so proud he was able and willing to help!

The other night, Taylor had two friends Bryn and Ashley over. For dinner we decided to make pizza. But not just any ordinary pizza...a BFF pizza! So cute! Almost immediately when I mentioned that we needed to make another one, Bryn piped up with the excellent idea of making one for her mom, Sandy. It had just been announced that Sandy is expecting kid # 4 and Bryn wanted to do something nice for her mom because we all know how BLAH that first trimester is!! They had fun making the BFF pizza, but the real excitement came when they were doing something kind for Miss Sandy! Funny how even youngsters can feel the pure joy of serving others!

So Seth and I have been spoiled this week! Last night we got to go to the taping of the 2008 Colgate Country Showdown. I have never heard of this until I met Michelle, who was the winner of it in 2006! You should check her out...she is amazing! Apparently this competition is huge and has been going on for 26 years!! It has $100,000 grand prize too! Pretty awesome! This year the show was hosted by LeAnn Rimes at the Ryman Auditorium downtown. After the show, we got to go to the after party @ a ballroom in the Sheraton Hotel and mingle with all of the contestants and dance! How fun is that? We had a great time thanks to our rockin awesome friends, the McCray's! Thanks guys!

Words cannot explain how much I love Celine Dion...I know, I need help! My amazing husband bought me tickets to go see her in concert as my Christmas present!! Last night was a GREAT night! We had FRONT ROW seats right next to the floor...She was so close I could see all the different colors of eyeshadow she wore!! Her voice is AMAZING, her performance was SO fun, the dancers were awesome, her band rocked...I only have ONE complaint....I didn't have my camera!!! Like the good, law-abiding citizen that I am, I read on our tickets that no cameras of any kind would be allowed, so I didn't even try to bring one. When we got there...EVERYONE was snapping away! The guy behind me even had a huge camera like mine...no one said a word. I could've gotten some amazing shots too...SHE WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!! UGH! But that's okay, I will never forget the pictures I have in my head. She is a beautiful woman with a powerful voice, and yes, I cried. I can no longer make fun of people who cry at concerts...I have now joined the club. Thank you Seth, my love, for allowing me to cross this off my list of 'things to do before I die'! It was AWESOME!

Of course, all of my posts have to have a BAZILLION pictures...so sorry! I just think that a picture could tell a story much better than I could. Today was a great day. I hung out with 2 of my brothers, Jeff and Mike and my sister Heather and her kids. We didn't do anything huge...just went to the park to play. Before we knew it, our little day at Long Hunter turned us into kids again! We played in the dirt, climbed trees, and spent an hour coming up with funny poses for the camera. It was like listening to a bunch of 8 year olds saying "ooh, ooh watch me do this!" or "I gotta a idea...let's try this!" I'm surprised we got any pictures that we aren't cracking up in. It felt so good to just pretend that the only thing we had to worry about was Alyx eating the rocks...other than that, nothing seemed as important as just being a family hangin out together. Sometimes I feel like I just get way too caught up in the little every day stresses of life to realize that every day is supposed to be a gift...life is supposed to be fun...we really can be happy if we let ourselves. So go dig in the dirt, climb a tree, skip rocks in a lake, look for seashells, or grab someones hand and run as fast as you can until you both fall to the ground because you're laughing so hard! Today was a great day.....can't wait til the next time we can just hang out again.

I can't believe everything that has happened since my last post!! Let's see, where to start...Seth was gone for military training for about 3 weeks (way last minute assignment), Taylor started 3rd grade and decided she wanted to try soccer instead of playing Fall Ball this year ( I didn't mind too much cuz I needed a break from coaching!), Reagan started a co-op preschool program with some other kids her age from church, I want to strangle Alyx every other day because she is in full blown terrible two mode!!, Seth started Paramedic School and is NEVER home and has had to cut back his hours at the gym as a result (less money is never a good thing!), and, oh yeah, did I mention that I'm the new Young Women's President? Just when I thought I couldn't possibly handle anything else on my plate, our bishop asked if I would be in charge of the Young women 12 to 18 years old at our church. I was terrified!! But I must say...these girls are AMAZING! We have 21 girls who constantly impress me with their strength and talents. I only wish I had their convictions and testimonies of Jesus Christ when I was that age. I am so proud that my daughters have them to look up to. My life has only been blessed by being around these ladies!!
So what next?!?
I guess what has stood out the most through all of this chaos we call 'normal life' is that things ALWAYS work out...no joke! When you put others before yourself, Heavenly Father does not leave you hangin'! It may not be in a way that you think of as 'ideal'...but it works nonetheless! There is an eerie sense of peace in my chaotic life right now that I haven't experienced before...or maybe just haven't appreciated until now...who knows...either way, I'm happy, we're living life one day at a time and learning to enjoy it despite the craziness!!

I just wanted to say thank-you to everyone who came to Taylor's baptism! It was such a beautiful, wonderful day. We had a full house with wonderful talks given by Uncle Ryan and Uncle Mike. Micah Judd and Bishop Lasson also shared some inspired thoughts and the spirit there was so strong. I have done many things in my life that I'm not proud of, but on Saturday I felt overwhelmed with pride. I had to have done something right for Taylor to have such a strong desire to choose the right and be baptized. She is loved by SO many people and it was felt very much on her big day. She was surprised with a beautiful card that was passed around the room and signed by everyone there. People wrote some really kind thoughts and shared praises and love that she will be able to keep forever. So again, thank you for loving her and supporting her during this milestone in her life!

I'm doing this today because I know that with everything that is going on this weekend...the blog will get ignored! We are so excited that Taylor has made the choice to get baptized!! She can't wait and has told everyone she knows! We have family coming in town and even Uncle Jeff got leave from the Marines to be able to come. Do I really have a kid old enough to get baptized?? Eight years have flown by and it makes me very nervous to think that another eight years will happen in fast forward and I'll be posting pictures of Taylor's new car since she'll be old enough to drive!! Ahhh!
Anyway, for all of our local friends...if you haven't gotten the word...Tay's big day is this Saturday @ 1:00. We'd love to see everyone there!

We had a great Independence Day! We spent the afternoon playing on a huge blow-up waterslide/pool thing that Seth splurged on last week and Gramma and Grampa came over to visit. Then, our friends the Turners invited us over for a cook-out and fireworks. This is my favorite holiday (Christmas takes a very close second) because it's all about spending time together, being thankful for this wonderful country and our freedoms, and it's in the middle of summer!! I have so many great memories of Fourth of Julys...swimming, grilling, sand volleyball, the WHOLE family together, and of course the fireworks!! I hope that my girls will remember how truly blessed they are to live in this country. There is something to be said about American pride...God bless America!

Two of my Leyva cousins flew into Knoxville on Sunday because they were going to spend a day with my sister and her family before they went to EFY @ Southern Virginia College. However, my sister is on vacation for two weeks so I got the job of driving to K-town to pick them up and take them to Buena Vista, VA the next day. Yes, it was a LOT of driving, but I was so so so happy to get to hang out with Alexx and Ryen! They are so great!! Alexx had a little bit of a stomach bug but toughed it out and was awesome to be around...he's a trooper! :) After picking them up @ the airport in Knoxville, we were trying to decide what we could do for fun. We drove around for what seemed like forever trying to find something...anything...and then we decided that Knoxville must only be good for one thing....EATING! There were restaurants everywhere...but nothing else. Until, we finally made our way to good ol' Putt-Putt golf. Of course, I kicked their trash...but it was fun! Spending time with them really made me sad that we have lived across the country form them their whole lives (they live in Reno, NV)...I feel like I've really missed out on a lot. But it makes little things like this end up being so fun when, normally, it might have been a little lame!! I love you guys!! Can't wait to see you in November!

Our Road

We went to Long Hunter State Park the other day and I was determined to get back into the landscape side of my photography (the thing that started my obsession). I realized too quickly that I am very rusty! Then mother nature gave me a hand and plopped this scene right before my eyes. I was immediately struck by the intense greens (it had just rained...my Favorite lighting) but then my eyes found this road. I know it sounds cheesy, but I claimed this little piece of paved path as our family road because it sums up our journey perfectly. The road is not straight as an arrow but in spite of it's slight curves, it's still headed in the right direction. The tall, immovable trees lining the path create a protective canopy over head much like the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Every direction you look fills you with awe, wonder, curiosity and amazement because of the sheer beauty of it all. I feel this way about my children and my husband. Every time I turn around, I feel so unbelievably blessed with these gifts that Heavenly Father has given me. It may have been a long windy road to get to where I am today...but the piece of road I am on right now with my family is the most beautiful stretch of pavement I have ever seen. I can't wait to see what's next in our journey together!

Daddy's Home!

After a long 2 1/2 weeks, Seth is home from his military stuff in South Dakota! Yay! Of course, the first thing out of Taylor's mouth was...'did you remember my surprise?'. Seth always bring home a treat for the girls...so he pulls out his big bag and each girl got something VERY fitting to their personalities. Alyx got a t-shirt that says 'I get my muscles from my dad'....perfect.
Reagan got a Native American necklace ...with a heart. And Taylor got a bag of rocks. I know that doesn't sound like much but trust me...it might have well been a bag of 30 karat diamonds as far as Tay is concerned. She has always Loved rocks so when Seth pulled out this little black velvet bag of brightly colored stones...Tay was in heaven! She didn't even let me get a picture before she went off trying to determine what types of rocks these were! We are SO happy to have Daddy home....especially me!

My brother Mike has yet another kidney stone. This poor kid has had some rough luck when it comes to these nasty little things! This one is 14mm in diameter which will require surgery in the morning. I just want to wish him good luck! He came over for dinner with my dad on Sunday and was SO cute wrestling with the girls and just being a fun uncle...and then the next day he's in pain...huge Bummer! Get better soon Mike....love you!

Being a Father Means...

....of our three precious miracles.

I can't tell you how hard it is that Seth is not here today. (He is in South Dakota for military). I look forward to Father's Day every year because it is one special day where I can truly spoil him and let him know that I have ZERO complaints about the kind of Dad he is. He makes up for everything I lack. He is patient, loving, humble, and calm when he deals with the girls...all things I do not possess! He understands that everything he does is teaching the girls what to expect in their husbands. Talk about big shoes to fill!
I think Seth's story is pretty amazing so I would like to share it today.
First, Seth took on the challenge of coming into a 'pre-made' family. Taylor was 2 and a half when we met him. She was also the kind of kid who had a major 'stranger-danger' complex. If Taylor didn't see you every day, she would cry if you even looked at her. But for some reason she took to Seth instantly...wanting to play peek-a-boo and hold his hand everywhere. I swear kids just know things!
About a year after we were married, Seth legally adopted Taylor in June and the next month we found out we were expecting Reagan. Talk about diving head first into this Dad thing! Then, only 2 weeks after we found out I was pregnant, the doctor told us Seth had testicular cancer and had to have surgery and chemotherapy for 7 months...my entire pregnancy! Seth's biggest fear was if the cancer was resistant and the chemo had to last longer than 7 months, he would not be able to hold Reagan the first couple months of her life because the meds he was on seeped through his skin and Reagan might absorb the chemicals. What a huge blessing it was when he finished a month before my due date...just long enough for his hair to grow back and the chemicals to be out of his system. Needless to say, we were all crying when he got to hold her! The doctor also told Seth not to expect to be able to have any more children...his body has been through a lot. When Seth was cancer-free for one year, he had a TON of tests done to make sure everything was okay..including a fertility test. He was told that he would not be able to have any more kids...we weren't surprised and felt very lucky to have our two girls! Less than a month later....the doctor gives ME some news...WHAT?!? I'm pregnant? But......but......
So here comes our miracle baby #3. I don't think I can handle any more blessings! Of course, now, we can't imagine our lives without our Little Bit! We know how lucky we are and Seth shows it every day when he always gives 110% as a dad.

The days have been way too hot lately to stay outside for very long so we took a trip to Wal-Mart to buy an inexpensive blow-up pool. Who would have thought that this $8 pool would be such a life-saver?! We were outside ALL day with no 'I'm hot', or 'I'm sweaty', or 'I'm DYING' coming from any of my girls' mouths! It was too cute to see them all in their goggles and suits playing so contently all afternoon! I have to say...after looking at these pictures...my favorite suit is Alyx's. I didn't know swimsuit material could stretch so far!! Needless to say...we'll be going swimsuit shopping tomorrow!! Bless her heart!

What would people do without friends? I'm talking about REAL, honest friends? This last week, I've experienced some...bizarre...heart-breaking...and completely unexpected things. My good friend Sandy has been an awesome support for me. I am SO grateful to know her, call her my friend, and for the fact that she lives right down the street!! After venting to her about my week, she dropped off a present this morning to cheer me up! She amazes me with her 'crafty' talent and even more with her HUGE heart! Thanks, Sandy, for putting a much needed smile on my face...you rock!

Seth had to take department pictures at work the other day and I must say...Dang, he looks good in that uniform! I am still in awe at what an extraordinary person he is. All of his occupations (yes...he has a few) have something to do with service. He is a firefighter, an EMT-IV, a S.W.A.T. medic, a Personal Trainer, and he is in the Army National Guard. He has dedicated his life to helping and protecting others and I couldn't be more proud to be his wife. He is the best father a kid could ask for, the greatest friend one could find, and I feel so lucky to call him mine. Taylor turned 8! She decided to have her party at the Magic Shop this year. I wasn't too sure about how fun it would be...but I was proved wrong! It was perfect!! The kids had a private magic show...then Tay got to open her presents up on stage! Next, we were in the party room eating cake and pizza and showing off our new magic tricks that were in giftbags for each of the kids. The magicians were in charge of making the mess 'disappear' so all I had to do was take pictures! It was the most painless party we have ever had and the kids had a MAGICAL time!

Today, Taylor's class had a special luncheon and awards ceremony for the last day of 2nd grade. We brought Tay lunch and got to go outside to the 2nd grade picnic tables to eat and watch the awards. Taylor got the 25 point club award, platinum reader award (she read 90 A.R. books!!), and her classmates voted her the 'Greatest Story Writer'. Her teachers, Mrs. Zimmerman and Mrs. Baskin have made this an extra special year for Taylor. She has grown so much and I am so proud of the little young woman she's becoming. Congratulations, Taylor, for such a wonderful year in school and I can't wait to see what next year has in store for you! We are SO proud of you!!

My Pookie!

Pookie is my sister Heather! She let me practice on her family with my new camera when we were in Knoxville last week. After a crash course in photography basics, she also took a turn playing around with it...and I must say that after lookin at her shots...I would be in heaven if she would move closer to me and we could do this photography thing together!!! She's a natural! Of course, I would be in heaven anyway if she were closer...I miss her so bad! Thanks for takin a half-way decent picture of me for my new profile Heather! I love these she took of Reagan!

The theme of the day seems to be HATS. For some reason, Alyx has been busily changing from one hat to another. I don't even know where she found a couple of them! Then, of course, Reagan joined the show. It was such a beautiful day that we spent the majority of it outside in our stylish hats!

I don't think words can describe how lucky I am to have Seth for my husband!! He COMPLETELY surprised me with the Canon 5D for Mother's Day! I have been eying this camera for a while and after using my friend's 20D (which is similar) I knew I had to have it. But never in my wildest dreams did I think I was getting it so soon! Thanks, Babe, for making me feel like the luckiest woman in the world!!

My Baby Brother is a MARINE!

I don't think there are any words to describe how proud we are of Jeff! He graduated Marine boot camp this week and of course we all went to support him! He has been on Parris Island, SC for the last 13 weeks becoming one of the few and the proud. When we (along with 1000+ others) were watching the ceremony, one thing that hit me the most was the overwhelming pride that was filling the building. It was moving in a way that I had never experienced before. I feel very blessed to live in this country and have always been a HUGE supporter of our military. Now that the Marines are lucky enough to have Jeff, my support is even greater. Jeff, you rock! HooRah!

Little Moments

Alyx is 18 months old now and it is near impossible for her to sit still long enough for me to take her picture. While trying...and not succeeding...to get her to smile, I have one hand holding my camera and the other trying to tickle her belly. Of course, all of those attempts end up in a blurry mess. All of a sudden she stops dead in her tracks...staring intently at the camera for about 15 seconds. I start snapping away absolutely loving the innocent, peaceful look on her face. My first thought is that she finally figured out that when Mom gets the camera in her face, she is supposed to hold still. So now my mind is racing through all of the photo shoots I can do with my 3 girls now that they are all cooperating....but my thoughts are interrupted. Alyx suddenly grabs her diaper and with big, round eyes says " I pee-pee!". My heart sank (even though I was laughing out loud) because I realized that she wasn't being cooperative....she just had to pee. Does that totally ruin the picture? I try not to think about it! Ya gotta be grateful for these funny little moments our kids share with us!

We had a few minutes before church and Reagan wanted me to take of picture of her in her new dress from Gramma Frost. Of course, Mom got a little carried away and we had a mini photo session....this shot was my favorite!

After playing outside on one of the beautiful days we had this week, Reagan and Alyx decided they were going to rest and watch a movie on their special couches. Within 5 minutes, they were both our for the count!

Bazillion Bubbles!

After washing up the girls decided to turn on the jets in the tub. Within a minute they were COVERED in bubbles and it even started to overflow onto the floor! Talk about squeaky clean!
